Which DURA-LIFT roller is right for me?

For most homes, the Titan or Ultra-Life Max is the best choice: both use a sealed 6200ZZ ball bearing, are rated for well over 100,000 cycles on a heavy door, and carry a lifetime guarantee. Choose Ultra-Quiet or Ultra-Seal for a lighter-use door or a budget repair, and the 3" Commercial roller only if your door runs on 3-inch track.

All rollers above have a nylon wheel, which runs at least 75% quieter than a standard steel roller. Every 2" roller fits standard 2-inch residential track.

How do I choose the right replacement roller?

Most residential doors take a 2" wheel with a 4" stem, on 2-inch track. Check these four things before you order.

  1. Measure your track width. Measure the inside of the vertical track from edge to edge. About 2" means any of our 2" rollers fit; about 3" means you need the Ultra-Life Max 3" Commercial (DLMR6201ZZ7).
  2. Check the wheel size. Our "2-inch" rollers measure 1-13/16" across the wheel, which is the industry-standard replacement size for 2" track.
  3. Check the stem length. Most hinges and brackets take a 4" stem (4-3/4" overall with the wheel). Some doors, such as those with thicker sections, double-wide hinges or extended brackets, need a 7" stem (7-3/4" overall). If your old stem is noticeably longer than 4", order a long-stem roller.
  4. Count how many rollers you need.Count the rollers on one side of the door and double it. As a guide:
    • A 7 ft tall door (usually 4 sections) uses 10 rollers → order a 10-pack.
    • An 8 ft tall door (usually 5 sections) uses 12 rollers → order a 12-pack (DLR6200ZZT12 or DLMR6200ZZ12).

Tip: Replace all rollers at the same time. Mixing new and worn rollers makes the door run unevenly and wears the new rollers faster.

What do cycle ratings and bearing types mean?

A cycle rating is how many times the roller is tested to open and close a door of a given weight. One cycle = one full open plus one full close. A door used 4 times a day runs about 1,460 cycles a year.

Not sure what your door weighs? Single-car doors are usually lighter. Double-car, insulated and wood doors are heavier, so use the 190 lb column as your guide.

Sealed 6200ZZ bearing vs. 13-ball bearing

  • 6200ZZ precision ball bearing (Titan, Ultra-Life Max): a fully enclosed, dual-caged bearing with metal shields on both sides. It keeps dirt out and grease in, which is why these rollers last many times longer.
  • 13-ball bearing (Ultra-Quiet, Ultra-Seal): a simpler, lower-cost design suited to lighter-use doors. Ultra-Seal adds protective caps; Ultra-Quiet is open and benefits from occasional lubrication.

Stem finish

  • Black oxide (Titan): triple-coated for the best corrosion resistance; recommended for humid, coastal or high-moisture garages.
  • Clear chromate plating (most other rollers): corrosion-resistant for typical home environments.

Installation safety and maintenance

Roller replacement is a common DIY job, but the bottom rollers sit in brackets that hold the lift cables under high spring tension.

Safety first

  • Never loosen or remove the bottom brackets while the springs are wound. They are under extreme tension and can cause serious injury. If a bottom roller can only be replaced by removing its bracket, contact a trained garage door professional.
  • Close the door and unplug the opener before you start.
  • Replace one roller at a time so the door section stays supported.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves.

Maintenance

  • Titan, Ultra-Life Max and 3" Commercial: the sealed bearing is pre-lubricated and does not require lubrication.
  • Ultra-Quiet and Ultra-Seal: no lubrication is required, but a light shot of garage-door lubricant on the bearing once or twice a year helps keep it smooth.
  • Do not grease the track or the nylon wheel. Grease collects dirt and can make rollers skid instead of roll.
  • Wipe the tracks clean and check rollers for cracks, wobble or flat spots during routine door maintenance.

Warranty and frequently asked questions

Warranty

FAQ

Will these rollers fit my garage door? Our 2" rollers fit standard sectional residential doors on 2-inch track, regardless of door brand. Check your stem length (4" or 7") before ordering. See "How do I choose the right replacement roller?" above.

Are nylon rollers really quieter than steel? Yes. Our nylon wheels reduce door noise by at least 75% compared with standard steel rollers.

Can I use these on a commercial door? Our 2" rollers are designed for residential doors. For doors on 3-inch track, use the Ultra-Life Max 3" Commercial (DLMR6201ZZ7).

Do I need to replace all my rollers at once? We recommend it. Worn rollers next to new ones make the door run unevenly and shorten the life of the new rollers.

A protective cap came off my roller. What should I do? Press the cap firmly back into place until it snaps in. If it won't stay seated, contact our support team; Titan and Ultra-Life Max rollers are covered by our lifetime guarantee.

Which roller lasts the longest? For 2" track, the Titan, rated for 150,000 cycles on a 190 lb door. For 3" track, the Ultra-Life Max 3" Commercial, rated for 200,000 cycles on a 190 lb door.

Which roller is best for a humid or coastal area? The Titan. Its triple-coated black-oxide stem offers the best corrosion resistance in our lineup.

How many rollers come in a pack? Standard packs hold 10 rollers, enough for most 7 ft doors. 12-packs (DLR6200ZZT12, DLMR6200ZZ12) are sized for 8 ft doors.
